I am in Berlin, on Museum Island, in the colonnade. King of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm IV had wished the Spree island
as a „sanctuary for art and sciences“.To do this, he had expressly proposed colonnades as a unifying architectural motif.
The Colonnade on the Museum Island Berlin is an open area outside the entrance of the old national gallery wrapped on
three sides by porticoes. The museum island is a unique whole piece of art and one of the biggest treasure houses of the world.
5 big museums (old museum, old national gallery, new museum, Bodemuseum and Pergamonmuseum) present 5000 years of
history of mankind and today belong to the world cultural heritage of UNESCO.
Right in the middle of the museum island, the construction reminding of an antique temple of the old national gallery rises. You see the
old national gallery here on the photo in the background. The old national gallery sitting enthroned on a high base floor whose entrance one
reaches about the monumental outside stair was built in the years 1867 and 1876 after plans Friedrich August Stülers.
She is valid as one of the most important museum architectures of the 19th century.
